Update on Onsite, October 22, 2019, Navy Pier, Chicago
2019 was an unforgettable 3rd Onsite College and Leadership Forum for the Green Halo Scholars. This was our most successful year yet!
We could not have done it without the support from our 5 high school partners; and from our volunteer mentors who believed in our mission! Through this collaborative effort 21 Green Halo Scholars had the opportunity to meet with admission officers representing their colleges and to participate in interviews. Some of the scholars were offered admissions and merit aid right at Onsite, others got some very constructive feedback from college admissions representatives on what they could improve on as well as guidance on next steps. The scholars had an extremely successful experience and outcome from Onsite this year!!
Our work, however, is not done yet, though our scholars have certainly completed a major milestone. We will continue to support our scholars till college decision day. Our focus now shifts with our scholars as we review their merit and financial aid packages, help identify and apply for additional private scholarships, assist with petition letters to colleges to further reduce or even eliminate their financial gap, and last but not the least to support our scholars with test prep sessions if they should need to retake their SAT/ACT’s. For this we have the generous support of A+ Tutoring in Countryside, IL who have donated their time and resources to coach our scholars. All this comes easy to us because of our amazing scholars and we want nothing but the best for them!
We now have the support and partnership from The Community House (TCH) in Hinsdale, IL! The Community House is a nonprofit organization that offers social services to people of all ages and walks of life. They strive to make a difference in the lives of families and individuals by providing local opportunities for education services, volunteer opportunities, and community connections and several other causes. We are extremely thankful and excited about the potential of this collaboration!
As we continue to look forward, we remain ever focused and determined to the mission and driving purpose of our foundation— to work in partnership with high schools, local businesses and colleges in supporting self-motivated, underserved, low-income, and first generation students to apply, attend, and succeed in college as they become the inspirational leaders of tomorrow.
Thank you all for your continued support and encouragement!
